Climate change, the environment and the price of oil have become the most contentious and important issues in the fleet industry. Every fleet regardless of size has been significantly affected, from rising fuel costs and tax increases to new technologies and fleet strategies.
One of the key issues for both governments and environmentalists is levels of CO2 emissions and when you consider that 22% of CO2 in Europe comes from transport [14% globally] then you appreciate just how severe the problem is and the challenges facing road users. The G8 Group of Nations in 2007 agreed a 50% reduction in CO2 by 2050 however, due to increased road use there may be a need for as much as 80-90% reduction overall.
